About Me.

The person in the room with you.
  Sarah L’Heureux (pronounced la-roo).
A woman with long brown hair, wearing a dark blazer and light-colored shorts, smiling and kneeling in tall grass in a lush green field with trees in the background.

I'm a licensed Professional Counselor and registered art therapist with fifteen years of experience sitting with people in hard moments. That work has happened in jails, homeless outreach centers, residential treatment, schools, and now private practice. Every environment taught me something different about what this work really is.

I've sat in my own hard places, which is part of why I can sit in yours.

My work is grounded in attachment theory and the understanding that how we learned to survive early in life shows up in how we relate to ourselves and others today. I use EMDR to process what's stuck and art therapy to give it somewhere to go.

Directness, humor, and genuine curiosity come into the room with me. If you're looking for someone to stop tiptoeing around the real thing, we're probably a good fit.

Making art was the first way I found to make sense of the world. That led me to a BA in Art Therapy and Fine Arts from Mount Mary University and then a Master's in Art Therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

From there my path went through settings most therapists never see: the Cook County Jail, Larimer County Jail, residential treatment for severe PTSD and addiction at All Points North, homeless outreach with veterans in Chicago, and school-based therapy with kids living in the middle of urban violence. Holding space for people in crisis, people who had been written off, people who didn't believe anything could change shaped how I practice in ways no textbook could.

I'm also a certified EMDR practitioner and have trained in Reiki and shamanic healing practices, because I believe healing is bigger than any one modality and I've always been willing to follow that thread wherever it goes. These days my practice is more focused on adults who are ready to go deeper than symptom management, using everything learned along the way.

Based in Lakewood, CO with in-person and telehealth sessions available. Licensed in Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida. My practice is primarily private pay, with a limited number of insurance spots. Reach out to ask about current availability.
